Track president Bob Colvin insisted on holding a convertible race after NASCAR discontinued the Convertible Division.
Only 74 laps were completed before the race was rained out. The race was completed on May 14.
Bob Welborn announced his retirement during the week-long delay. Jim Paschal drove his car upon the resumption of the race.
Tim Flock became ill during the delay. Speedy Thompson took over for the remainder of the race.
